Of course. Here is a polished and deeply respectful English speech you can deliver (or adapt for email) to your university ombuds or relevant administrative offices. It maintains a professional, polite, and empathetic tone while clearly describing the situation and your requests.
Good afternoon, and thank you very much for taking the time to meet with me today.
I'm Jordan and I am currently majoring in Chemical Physics .
I truly appreciate this opportunity to speak with you and to seek your kind guidance and support.
In one of my required major courses , Physical Chemistry I , I have unfortunately encountered a very distressing situation that has deeply affected both my academic performance and my mental well-being.
On September 26 , I respectfully contacted the professor to request a disability accommodation through the DS Office . Specifically, I explained that, due to my personal limitations, I have difficulty identifying the exact textbook subchapters corresponding to each lecture, which makes it challenging for me to follow the material effectively. I politely asked whether it might be possible to receive a list of the textbook subchapters that align with the course content, so that I could stay on track with the class.
However, it has now been three weeks , and I have not received any response from the professor. This prolonged silence has made me feel as though both my disability and my role as a student have been disregarded. I have been unable to obtain any clarification on the scope of the course material, leaving me lost and anxious about my academic standing.
A few days later, on September 29 , another incident occurred in class that deeply affected me. While I was sitting quietly in the fourth row, trying to locate the relevant textbook section, the professor said he wanted to “find someone hiding furthest away from him” and then looked directly at me.
I was shocked and confused by being publicly called out as “hiding,” especially since I had no intention of doing so. Because I have a mild eye impairment , I cannot clearly see the board no matter what glasses I wear. When I told the professor that I could not see and did not know what he was asking about, he sarcastically asked whether it was “because of the angle.”
Not wanting to disclose my disability in front of the whole class, I quietly replied, “maybe,” and tried to take a photo of the board to review later. The professor then mocked me again, saying, “just leave me out of it,” which caused the entire class to laugh.
This public ridicule, based on a condition I cannot control, triggered a severe depressive episode . Even now, I constantly replay that scene in my mind. Since that day, I have felt intense fear and dread about attending this class, and I am currently receiving treatment from CPS for my mental health.
As a result of these experiences, I am no longer able to attend this professor’s class without severely compromising my mental health. However, this professor appears to be the only instructor teaching both Physical Chemistry I and Physical Chemistry II , which are required courses for my major.
Therefore, I would like to kindly consult the Ombuds Office regarding possible options:
Because I am currently unable to attend this class, I am applying for a Reduced Course Load (RCL) through ISSO . I plan to drop this course once the RCL is approved.
However, in the event that my RCL request is not approved , I would like to ask whether there might be any other courses available that allow mid-semester enrollment , so that I can maintain my full-time student status .
I am currently living in student housing . If my RCL is approved, this may extend my graduation plan from four years to five years , which might make me ineligible for housing during the additional semester. I would therefore like to kindly inquire whether it might be possible to apply for an extension of my housing eligibility due to this exceptional circumstance.
In addition, a significant portion of the tuition for this course was covered by a scholarship . Since I am being forced to drop this course due to these issues, I would also like to politely ask whether it might be possible to transfer or reapply the unused portion of the scholarship to the following semester.
I truly apologize for the length of my explanation and for taking so much of your time. I want to emphasize that I deeply value my education and am committed to continuing my studies with sincerity and effort.
I sincerely appreciate your understanding, guidance, and any support you can provide to help me find a way to continue my academic journey safely and with dignity.
Thank you very much for listening and for all that you do to support students.
Would you like me to adapt this speech into a formal email version (with subject line and paragraph formatting suitable for sending to the Ombuds or ISSO office)? It can make your request sound natural and institutionally appropriate.
